Who’ll Take George’s Place as Hollywood’s Top Playboy?

LeoBy the time you read this, George Clooney could be a married man. As you probably know, in early August the suave actor-filmmaker, who for years has unofficially reigned as Hollywood’s top playboy, posted wedding banns in Chelsea with his fiancee, human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin — a legal detail that was necessary at least 16 days prior to their planned nuptials.

So now the question is, who will ascend to his place atop the heap? It won’t be easy to fill Clooney’s $700 Armani loafers, you know. For one thing, Clooney showed us that a guy can be a playboy and remain politically correct. In his past he had a brief marriage (to Talia Balsam) in addition to his long string of romances with fabulous beauties — from British television personality Lisa Snowdon to French model Celine Balitran, Italian heiress Gianna Elvira Cantatore, actress Krista Allen, wrestler cum TV personality Stacy Keibler — plus an appreciation of Renee Zellweger that reportedly had George gifting the star with a $30,000 diamond bracelet.

Yet impressively, George’s ex-girlfriends seem to have good things to say about him — like Allen, who worked with him after their breakup and can’t say enough about how much she reveres his talent and abilities as a producer.

The story goes that his pal Nicole Kidman bet Clooney $10,000 he’d be married by the time he was 40. Obviously, she lost. “Nicole sent me a check for $10,000,” he was quoted as saying. “I mailed it back and wrote, ‘Double or nothing for another 10 years.'”

She missed by three years. With fellow “Sexiest Man Alive” Adam Levine out of the running, having recently wed model Behati Prinsloo, our attention turns to these seven prospects for Tinseltown’s Top Ladies’ men:

Bradley Cooper. The “Silver Linings Playbook” superstar has a pretty breathtaking playbook of his own. He had a brief marriage to actress Jennifer Esposito, and then moved on to Renee Zellweger and Zoe Saldana, with appearances by Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lopez and Scarlett Johansson in the mix before dating 17 years younger model Suki Waterhouse last year.

mayerJohn Mayer. The handsome, preternaturally talented singer-songwriter clearly has gifts for other things as well — with exes including Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jessica Simpson, Minka Kelly, Jennifer Aniston, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry. Too bad he flubs on gentlemanly behavior, as most notoriously evidenced by his kiss-and-tell interviews in Rolling Stone and Playboy.

Jake Gyllenhaal. Celebrity watchers were so busy examining the elevator video of Beyonce, Jay Z and the very upset Solange Knowles outside an after party the night of the Met Gala last May that relatively few noticed Jake Gyllenhaal was at the event — as were three of his exes at once: Kirsten Dunst, Reese Witherspoon and Taylor Swift. Awkward! He dated model Alyssa Miller till December, and then, more recently, he’s been seen out and about with Rachel McAdams. Like George, he’s gorgeous and politically active.

Gerard Butler. The Scottish hunk has resisted being termed a playboy, but he certainly has the track record of the genuine article. He’s reportedly dated Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Aniston, Shanna Moakler, Jasmine Burgess, real housewife Brandi Glanville, and Kazakhstani billionaire Goga Ashkenazi, in addition to an array of models including Naomi Campbell. The “300” and “How to Train Your Dragon” star recently split from Madalina Ghene and is back on the market.

Jared Leto. The Oscar winner and 30 Seconds to Mars frontman has burned quite a trail through town, having dated Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears, Ashley Olson and Cameron Diaz, and enjoyed a flirtation with Lindsay Lohan.

Irish hellraiser Colin Farrell is the first roguish face that comes to mind for many when the words “movie star” and “playboy” are uttered in the same sentence. The one-time boyfriend of Britney Spears bought a house for his ex-girlfriend and mother of one of his sons, model Kim Bordenave, but didn’t marry her. He sued another ex-girlfriend, Playboy Playmate Nicole Narain, trying to keep her from marketing their sex home movie. His second son is with his “Ondine” costar, Alicja Bachleda-Curus. His past flames list also includes Angelina Jolie, Maeve Quinlan and Demi Moore.

Leonardo DiCaprio. He’s up there with George in so very many ways — a debonair superstar who also shows up trying to make a difference in the world at large. Plus, he has a list of exes who are internationally renowned models and actresses — Gisele Bundchen, Kristen Zang, British model and socialite Emma Miller, Naomi Campbell, Scarlett Johansson, Israeli model Bar Refaeli, Erin Heatherton, Blake Lively, and Leo’s girlfriend since May of 2013, Victoria’s Secret model Toni Garrn. There’ve already been rumblings of trouble between DiCaprio and the 21-year-old German. He was seen dancing up close with model Katie Cleary at Gotha nightclub in Cannes while Toni was elsewhere.

Who do you think will take George’s spot? One of these, or someone else? Time will tell.

Sheen, Gibson, Mayer Among ‘Toxic Men’ Archetypes, Says Author

Charlie Sheen

Communications expert, professor and author Dr. Lillian Glass reports she’s simply staggered to find the archetypes in her new “Toxic Men” book making news these days all over the celebrity sphere.  And once she starts naming names, she makes a very good case for just that.

“It’s been amazing, what is happening in the headlines.  For instance, Charlie Sheen — a celebrity face and name — is absolutely a toxic type.  He’s in the category of  the gloom and doom self-destructive victim.  He’s had it all, had everything handed to him over and over, yet he has these self-destructive issues including being with the women he should not be with again and again, and being very hostile with them,” says Glass, who’ll be seen with Joy Behar and Dr. Phil this week tubthumping on behalf of the tome.

Mel Gibson

Next, there’s “Mel Gibson, the control freak type, the ultimate bully, so full of rage and hate, and even a little bit of the sadist, we see going on…”

And, “John Mayer, the emotional refrigerator.  We see him go through these major relationships and, as a body language expert, I see that his body language is the same over and over again.  Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Simpson — he walks ahead of these women.  You see no affection.”

Glass, whose book not only includes clues to look for in order to avoid toxic types (women too), but guidelines for dealing with them when one must, on the job or socially, points to Jesse James as another archtype.  “The silent but deadly erupting volcano.  He’s so quiet and sweet,

Jesse James

but then there’s all this cheating with several women, and the photo with him wearing a Nazi hat — this obnoxious passive-aggressive attitude about his alleged racism.”

She views Michael Lohan as the toxic type she deems “the sneaky two-faced meddling backstabber” and who could disagree?

John Edwards she titles The Wishy Washy Spineless Wimp.  We get that.

Kanye West, meanwhile, is “a narcissist.  It’s all about him.  For anybody to go onstage and take an award out of another person’s hands saying they don’t deserve it — that’s the ultimate act of narcissism.  He’s the Me Myself and I type of toxic man.”

The Jealous Competitor type is represented by Chris Brown, in her view.  “When a man hits a woman, it’s about envy and jealousy — competitiveness.  This is where you find cases of abuse — this type and the controllers.”

At the very worst end of the scale are emotionless psycho sociopaths capable of acting very charming.  “They’re blamers, nothing is their fault. And they’re liars.”  She places fraud perpetrator Bernie Madoff and murder suspect Joran Van Der Sloot in that category.

Last but not least, there’s the “manipulative cheating liar, which is Tiger Woods,” says Glass.  “We saw him.   He gave that mea culpa speech, but it was all for his golf game.”

Glass’s book, of course, has much more information and nuance.  “Of the 15 books I’ve written, this is the one I’m most excited about,” she says, “the one I believe can most positively change lives,”  Or at least, be entertaining as all get-out.

Beck/Smith Hollywood Tacky Taste Awards 2008

Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin

With Thanksgiving almost upon us again, it’s time to dish those celebrity turkeys whose behavior you found hard to swallow this year — the 2008 Tacky Taste Awards, voted on by readers. Here are the Top 10 results:

1. Sarah Palin. The former VP candidate may not have won on Nov. 4, but she won here, proving a lightning rod for tacky votes — with correspondence both condemning and defending her. “I have a big problem with Sarah Palin’s $150,000 wardrobe. So much for being for the working class,” wrote AlleeC via email. Grace H. of Burbank, Calif., wrote, “I second the nomination for Sarah Palin’s wardrobe and everything else Sarah Palin — such as her look-at-me-I’m-pregnant-and-single teenage daughter.”

But on the other hand, after we indicated in our column that the Alaska governor was drawing Tacky votes, a storm of letters came in on her behalf. Such as: “I think you two should be listed as tacky. How many times do you have to be told that Gov. Sarah Palin did not pick out the clothing, it was the RNC. She couldn’t move without the news media and photographers being on her trail, and yet how many photos did we see showing her in the exclusive stores?” wrote Martha J. of Chattanooga, Tenn. “What about the cost of Joe Biden’s botox and hair transplants?” mused Blake123 from the Internet. And then there were those, like KrisL of San Bernardino, Calif., who were disgusted by the triviality of it all: “Forget the economy, Iraq, global warming and health care. Let’s talk about her clothes! Now, that’s tacky.”

2. Madonna and Guy Ritchie. The ugly Madonna/Guy Ritchie divorce and how public they have been about dissing each other got readers’ attention. “He said she was like cuddling up to a piece of gristle, and at a concert she said her song ‘Miles Away’ was dedicated to the emotionally retarded, which people believed she was talking about him. Maybe they’re each right, but why to they have to go out and tell the world? After all, they picked each other,” wrote F.F. of Raleigh, N.C. PandagirlDeb emailed, “Divorce really sucks for the kids, and all the sniping in public doesn’t help.” “Her affair with Alex Rodriguez adds another tacky chapter to her slutty, tacky life story,” said Tony from Phoenix, Ariz.

3. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Angelina Jolie’s comment to the New York Times alluding to the fact that she and Brad Pitt fell in love while making “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” rankled more than a few. “So now the truth pops out. Whatever happened to her holier-than-thou statements that her mom was cheated on, so she’d never break up a marriage?” asked reader Jon S.

from Bloomfield, N.J. Sean-D emailed, “Why do people always rush to attack Jolie as if she was the sole culprit in this story, with Pitt getting a free pass? It ain’t right.” And then there are those who are just tired of the couple in general. As G.H. of Burbank put it, “I’m sick of Brangelina having kids every time they turn around and reading about them every time they go to the toilet.”

4. Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus. You didn’t forget her bare-in-bed Lolita-esque Vanity Fair pose. “Her daddy is to blame,” declared Ellen of Orlando, Fla. D.G. of Denver felt, “The whole thing with the two of them posing more like a couple than father and daughter was ewwwwwww, sleazy & tacky!! It’s sickening, the way he’s riding her coattails to refresh his career, at any cost.” “I used to really like her, but now I can’t stand her and her huge ego. Go Selena and Demi!” added SamanthaHC on the Internet.

5. Balthazar Getty and Sienna Miller. “What were they thinking, making out with her nearly nude on a beach with paparazzi around? Not only was he married, he’s got four kids. It doesn’t get any tackier,” claimed Ann S., over the Internet. “She acts like a slut and then sues paparazzi over the fact she is a tramp. Sad.” — Dale C., Las Vegas. “Wowza. She doesn’t seem to like wearing tops. She must get a lot of chest colds.” — A.I., Newark

6. Mariah Carey. “Reading about her demanding a private jet, a $15,000 a night penthouse suite and a Michelin-starred chef to appear on the World Music Awards made my blood boil. This kind of outrageous diva behavior was bad enough before, but now that so many people are suffering economically, losing their jobs, unable to pay for their kids’ needs, it’s completely disgusting.” — Nora B., St. Louis, Mo.

7. Lynn Spears. “To exploit your daughter’s personal life to sell your book is beyond tacky. And it’s supposed to be ‘inspirational’ on top of that.” — Bernice, Yonkers, N.Y.

8. Russell Brand, for making fun of the Jonas Brothers’ chastity promise rings on the Video Music Awards. “Even Paris Hilton thought he went too far.” — C.S., Denver

9. Lindsay Lohan. “She is so trashy and tacky, and this incident with her fighting and screaming obscenities at her girlfriend, Samantha Ronson, in a London nightclub is par for the course. Anger management rehab?” — Jay M., Northridge, Calif.

10. John Mayer. “Even though John Mayer and Jennifer Aniston got back together, I thought it was tacky how he kept talking to the press about their breakup. I can’t believe she took him back after that!” — E.F., via email.

And, that’s it for this year. Wishing you all a warm and peaceful holiday, and may all your turkeys be tasty ones!
